New Home Construction Inspections

Building a new home? Although new homes are subject to standard code inspections by local building officials, they are limited in scope and primarily address code compliance and safety. Also, if problems are found later, there is no recourse against the building officials. Most people building a new home have little or no contracting experience and can’t take the time off work to visit the construction site. Or they may live in another state and can’t routinely visit and monitor the construction. We can provide you with the added security and peace of mind in knowing that all critical steps in the construction process are properly performed according to agreed upon contractual specifications.

The construction inspection begins with a review of the plans and specifications before you commit to a contractor and includes recommendations on various topics such as materials and methods, waterproofing, potential problem areas with the lot and safety issues. The inspection process includes multiple visits while your home is being built including the following:

  • Inspection of the foundation footings prior to pouring concrete.

  • Foundation inspection of basement or crawlspace prior to framing.

  • Waterproofing of foundations and backfill.

  • Framing inspection before drywall installation.

  • Confirm use of agreed-upon materials and proper installation of components.

  • Recommend radon resistant construction.

  • Final walk-through inspection with the owner before finalizing the contract.

  • Additional walk-through inspection prior to end of 12-month warranty period for new home.
Documentation photos are taken during each inspection and interim reports are mailed to the homeowner.
